VENOM Guitarist To Release New Solo Album In February

October 25, 2003

VENOM guitarist Mantas has enlisted Italian guitarist Dario Mollo to produce his long-delayed second solo album, "Zero Tolerance". Mollo (SKYCLAD, CRADLE OF FILTH, ANATHEMA, etc.) reportedly got the job after Mantas heard his work on the new SKYCLAD CD. Says Mantas, "Although the SKYCLAD music is a million miles from my own sound, I've worked with Kev Ridley (SKYCLAD's producer and singer) for nearly 20 years now and trust his judgment in the production department. He really rates Dario as having some of the best ideas he's come across — that's why he chose to work with him on the SKYCLAD CD. Anyway, Kev played me some of the new SKYCLAD tunes and I thought they sounded great!! Unbeknownst to me, Kev told our record company that he thought Dario would do a cracking job on my album, and suggested we send him a track to see what he could do. Next thing I know, I get a call to the office and they play me the mix of our 'Rage'. It simply blew me away!! We were talking to people like Colin Richardson (MACHINE HEAD, FEAR FACTORY) and Dave Ogilvie (MARYLIN MANSON),but when I heard what Dario did, he got the job instantly."

Recorded at the Demolition Studios in Newcastle, "Zero Tolerance" could very well end up being Mantas' finest work to date. Says the guitarist, "All tracks are recorded now, so all I've got to do is find a producer who's got the balls to put the whole thing together." He continues, "These are some of the strongest most brutal tracks I've ever recorded, and I can't wait to get the damn thing released so I can tour the arse off it." Joining Mantas on bass guitar is his VENOM Mark III ally Tony Dolan (bass/vocals, ex-ATOMKRAFT). "When the chance came to include Tony in the new MANTAS line-up, I jumped at it," Mantas says. "He's one of the finest musicians I've ever worked with, and on a live stage he's simply fucking crazy!!... That's what I want this band to be about — it's got to be brutal in all aspects. On stage I want it to be so fucking OTT [over the top] you'll have to sign a waiver for your health before you're allowed in the venue!!" Release for the new CD is expected to be February 2004, preceded by a single and promo video in January.
